House of Kuumba The People the Culture The Music

The People. The Culture. The Music. celebrates and honours those who came before us, our ancestors, and the fluidity of culture as it evolves with time. In the SeSotho tradition, healers perform Malopo chants to communicate and connect with the ancestors. The playing of meropa as we know it, is pre-dominantly found in healing practices, and in most cases, led by women healers. The People. The Culture. The Music. showcases and gives voice to marginalized, rural female percussion players through storytelling and song.

The project was sponsored by the National Arts Council.
